2018 AIA Award: The Ewing House

Our Ewing House project has just won an AIA award at this years Design Pittsburgh celebration! Thanks to Joey Reid and Paul Wakim for their project photography, Iliya Jordanoff for his management and drafting, to Ben Imhoff for his renderings, and to Mark Delissio for the super-cool mig and tig welded steel model. The AIA jury commented on how they “like how the home has been perched on the earth and appreciate the function of a single mother being able to clearly watch over her four young children outside.”  They thought the project possessed a “great design idea” but were critical of certain aspects of the execution, suggesting that the project had been “possibly value engineered.” (True…)  As well the jury appreciated “the sustainability aspects incorporating the geothermal wells and earth-sheltered construction.”  Finally, they really liked the drawings!
