First there was a quite nice, 70’s modern, Lower Burrell home. Then, early in 2020, the owners, Kenyetta and Ericka, built an addition only to discover it didn’t look the way they hoped.

Fisher ARCHitecture was invited to the table shortly thereafter to unite the new building with the old one.

Our intent was

1) to dematerialize the oversized new mass by cladding it with a slatted wood scrim

2) to relate the addition to the existing home by continuing elements of the existing home geometry into the new construction and

3) to disguise the new volume by foregrounding it with an earthen berm.

What better way to spend a month of pandemic-indused social isolation than carefully detailing our ideas?
