Ormond Renovation

The Ormond Renovation reconnected the owner in her cooking area to the rest of her house:  The existing first floor kitchen of this beautiful Point Breeze home, like that of many Pittsburgh homes, was visually remote from the rest of the house. We removed most of the existing first floor walls and installed all new appliances and cabinets.

The project does not shout. The new architecture fits in easily not only with the original Craftsman style architecture; but also with the first renovation of the home completed by modernist, Mike Marcu back in the 1960’s.

The completed project features unobstructed views (and passage) from the kitchen to every first floor room. A new many-windowed study connects the kitchen to the living room and to the garden. The kitchen itself is now predominately defined not by its walls but rather by means of a panel-clad ceiling.

Casework guru, Jeremy Smith, built the cabinets himself. His quality craftsmanship is evident everywhere. Jeremy was an entrepreneur: At the time he was hoping to develop a line of casework with Fisher ARCHitecture details that he could market around our region.

We were fortunate to work with skilled Pittsburgh contractor and friend-of-the-owner, John Cummings.

Benefits of Custom Cabinets

(per Tampa custom cabinet company, S & W Kitchens)

1. Endless Design Options

With custom cabinets, you have complete control over the design, style, materials, and finishes. This allows you to create cabinets that perfectly complement your home’s architecture and reflect your unique taste and lifestyle.

Standard cabinets from a big box store may be cheaper, but they are never a better value than custom made cabinets. When you add together all of the benefits of custom cabinetry, you will understand why homeowners who choose custom cabinetry enjoy their decision every day.

2. Optimal Use of Space

Have an unusual kitchen layout or an unconventional bathroom floor plan? Factories design standard cabinets in standard sizes, so if you have a wall left over, you will need fillers in these areas. Though they have their place, one should use fillers sparingly.

Carpenters build custom cabinets to fit your specific space, maximizing storage capacity and efficiency. Customized features such as pull-out shelves, built-in organizers, and specialized storage solutions can help you make the most of every inch of available space.

Custom cabinet design gives you an elevated look that one cannot match with standard cabinetry.

3. Built to Last

Skilled artisans craft custom cabinets with attention to detail and precision. They form their cabinets from high-quality materials and construction techniques, ensuring durability, longevity, and superior performance.

Cabinet makers form custom cabinets  by hand – not on assembly lines. S&W is proud to partner with some of the best cabinet makers in the business,  who take pride in their work, using quality materials for a finished product that’s a work of art.  Custom cabinets will last a long time.

4. Local Sourcing

If you are concerned about the origin of the wood used for your cabinets, then you will immediately see the benefit of custom cabinetry. You have a much broader choice of wood for your project including using domestic hardwoods that lessen the impact on the environment.  The majority of our cabinet makers are located in the USA.

5. Increase the Value of Your Home

Custom cabinets are considered a premium feature and can significantly enhance the value and appeal of your home. They demonstrate attention to detail and quality craftsmanship, making your home more attractive to potential buyers should you decide to sell in the future.

6. Long Term Investment

While custom cabinets may require a higher initial investment compared to standard or semi-custom cabinets, they offer long-term value and satisfaction. Custom cabinets are built to last and can withstand the test of time, providing years of enjoyment and functionality for you and your family.
