Kentucky Avenue
The renovated façade and interior of Austin and Louise’s Kentucky Avenue home now reflects their tastes and inclinations: A steel bridge with a wood deck stretches across a sunken moat and guides visitors to the front door.
The De Stijl-esque patterning of the new openings communicates Austin’s interest in electronic music. Like his music, the façade has many layers. Also, it has its own distinct rhythm and patterns. The lyrics of his songs may be dark. Even so, the tunes, like DeStijl art, aspire to clarity.
However, this isn’t just decoration: The patterning and layering of the façade follow directly from the layout of the interior spaces. Indoors, the carefully designed casework creates a consistent, contemporary aesthetic. Rigorous drawings make all the difference when it comes to detail.
Though the architecture may not resemble its Kentucky Avenue neighbors, the building somehow fits in: The height is just right, as are the colors and the windows.

This was the first of many exterior renovations we’ve designed for existing Pittsburgh homes and businesses. This was where were back in 2005. Now we are using our amazing software to create architectural affects and experiences that were simply not possible back then. For example, our 513 Court Place project, under construction now, uses parametric tools to achieve it’s striking transparencies.
